Background

The history of the Consortium started with Jeff Lindstrom, YMCA, College Network, and the Stuart Grant in winter of 2014. The group’s priority focus was on access to post-secondary education in King County. The initial group membership were those working with foster youth on educational goals and planning. Purpose Statement

The Passport Consortium is a diverse group of King County stakeholders who create strategies that improve access to post-secondary programs for youth who have been in foster care or have experienced unaccompanied homelessness.

Mission

The King County Passport Consortium will make a collective effort to accomplish the following:

  • Passport-eligible students enroll in, and graduate from post-secondary programs at the same rate as their non-Passport eligible peers.
  • Supportive adults have accurate and accessible information to guide youth who have been in foster care or who have experienced unaccompanied homelessness through the post-secondary path of their choice.

Approach

  • Identify and reduce systemic barriers to enrollment and completion of post-secondary programs.
  • Build collaborative partnerships, share resources, and best practices.
  • Initiate a cultural shift, where foster youth, youth experiencing unaccompanied homelessness, and their supportive adults expect post-secondary enrollment and completion.
